Get involved with V!
Do you volunteer anywhere? Volunteering can range from little things like helping elderly people one day a week to much bigger things like helping set up a new youth club for young people.
There are thousands of volunteering opportunities out there - which one is right for you? V is here to help you find what you want in your area. Whether you're looking to gain experience in conversation, the arts, media, animal care, retail or anything else you can think of, including planning your own events, we will work with you to help you achieve just that. We've already helped hundreds of young people to organise music events for charity, fashion shows, outdoor activities and much more!
Volunteering always looks excellent on CV's, college/university applications and especially job applications. For that reason we offer V Awards, nationally recognised certificates in volunteering that accredit and reward the time you give.
Where do I start?
Volunteering is anything which you do but don’t get paid for. V is for young people who are aged 16 – 25. There are lots of ways you can get V Involved! In Norfolk the V team is hosted by Voluntary Norfolk. Voluntary Norfolk represent Volunteering for all ages in Norfolk and have departments dedicated to volunteering in different areas e.g. Mental Health Befriending or Advocacy. If you want to find out about volunteering or want help to find a placement, then give them a call on 01603 614474 or you can visit the office (83 – 87 Pottergate, Norwich, NR2 1DZ).
V is the national organisation who deals with Youth volunteering (16-25 years old). Will Mills and Rosanna Wynn-Williams also work from the Voluntary Norfolk offices on Pottergate. Why not pop in and see them – another way you can find places to volunteer is to look on the website, www.do-it.org.uk. Hundreds of Voluntary Placements near you are listed here.
V50 (The V Awards)
The great thing about doing all this is that you can get recognised for the voluntary work you are doing by taking part in the V50 scheme, a nationally recognised certificate in volunteering. Just call your Youth Volunteer Advisor, Will Mills, on 01603 883848 and ask to register for V50. If you are already volunteering in any capacity this is great way to get recognised for the work your doing. If you are interested in doing any volunteering then talk to Vicki Sherratt in the Advice Shop on 01603 773386. Vicki is your Enrichment Officer at Norwich City College and she will be able to tell you when Will from V is next in the college for one of his regular drop in sessions in the Advice Shop.
