Student Art and Crafts Sale

Students from City College Norwich are holding an art and crafts sale this week to raise funds for special end of year activities.  The sale features art, photography, sculpture, jewellery and other crafts produced by students in the School of Foundation Studies.

Hair Show Inspired by Past, Present and Future Trends

Hairdressing students from City College Norwich will be showcasing their creative talent to around 200 guests at their “Philosophy” show, at Drayton Old Lodge, on Monday 28th June.  The event features a photographic exhibition and live demonstrations of styling, inspired by Avant Garde Fantasy, Women in Art and Futuristic themes. 

Awards Celebrate Vocational Successes

City College Norwich today celebrated the role played by employers in supporting vocational success with a breakfast awards event at The Forum in Norwich.  The event was held as part of national Vocational Qualifications (VQ) Day.

The winners of the 6 awards for employers were:

·        Hugh J Boswell - Support for Apprenticeships Award

·        AXA Insurance - Business Benefits of Learning Award

·        Mulberry Bush Day Nursery - Education-Business Links Award

·        Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital - Higher Level Skills Award

Graphic Design Show at The Forum

Creative Arts School goes on show

Creative Arts students at City College Norwich have created their biggest installation yet, transforming their workshops, studios and classrooms into a major exhibition space.  The End of Year Show, featuring everything from textiles to graphics, painting to sculpture, and photography to multi-media installations, is one of the highlights of the college calendar.

Vocational Victory for High Flying Norwich Student

Piya Das, a former City College Norwich student, has been named VQ Learner of the Year 2010 for the East of England in the 24 and under category.  Piya, who is aiming to join the Royal Air Force as a Fighter Pilot or Engineering Officer, is an outstanding example of how vocational qualifications can provide a springboard for success.

Solutions Salons Earn Dual Seal of Approval

Solutions, City College Norwich’s hairdressing and beauty therapy salons, have met the required standards in order to achieve recognition in both the Good Salon Guide and the Good Training Guide.  These key professional benchmarks will further enhance the salons’ reputation for offering first class hairdressing and beauty treatments to the public, and as an excellent place in which to train.

Creative Arts End of Year Show, 29th June - 7th July

The Creative Arts End of Year Show features exhibitions of fine art, graphics, textiles, photography and multi-media work created by students from the School of Creative Arts. The exhibition is free and takes place in City College Norwich's Creative Arts department from 29th June to 7th July.

Celebrity Chef Adds Spice to Fundraising Dinner to Help Change Lives in Bulgaria

Television chef Cyrus Todiwala OBE, who runs Café Spice Namasté in London, worked alongside trainee chefs from City College Norwich last night for a special charity dinner.  The evening was organised to raise funds for Phoenix Inspire, a charity set up by former Head of the Hotel School, Mick Cooper, which creates hope and opportunity for some of the poorest people in Bulgaria by training them to become chefs.  

Students’ Artistic Work to be Exhibited in Former Megastore

A Level Art, Photography and Textiles Exhibition, Sat 19 - Wed 23 June

 

City College Norwich’s A-level art, photography and textiles students are preparing to hold their annual exhibition in the impressive 3-story space of the former Zavvi / Virgin Megastore shop, thanks to the support of The Mall.  The students will be following in the footsteps of illustrious British artists such as Tracey Emin and Sarah Lucas who also used an empty shop space to show their artwork during the early 1990s recession.
