Diploma Students’ Charity Fashion Show raises £1000

A team of 6 students have raised over £1000 for charity by organising a catwalk fashion show which was held at the Assembly House in Norwich. The show, called “Passerelle”, unveiled 5 themed collections of outfits, accessories and make up looks and all proceeds went to local charity the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice (EACH).

Over 150 guests attended the sold out show and many took part in the charity raffle with fantastic prizes from the likes of Dunston Hall, Libby Ferris Flowers, Aurum Jewellers, Cinema City, Saks Hairdressers and many more. The students organised all aspects of the show themselves, from booking the venue to designing and making the clothes that were on show.
The students have worked together as a team in planning and organising the event and have all contributed different things to the show. Student Laura King was chief make up artist at the event and was responsible for the overall design and execution of the make up for the models in the performance. Laura has been working along side Siobhan Plane, Emily Rout, Neidin Dunsdon, Katie O’Mara and Felicity Greef who each designed a clothing collection with a different theme for the evening. Each collection had up to 10 outfits and the themes ranged from 1950s Pin Up to the British Union Jack.

Student Katie O’Mara, one of the shows organisers, said: “I am so proud of what we have achieved, the show looked amazing and I never thought we would raise so much for such a good cause. I had a slight fall on the catwalk but fortunately no one noticed.
We have had fantastic support from all our sponsors, everyone who donated prizes for the raffle and helped us on the night and the fantastic staff at the Assembly House. I have been to fashion shoes before but you don’t think about all the details that go into organising it. It’s been great work experience, I hadn’t really thought about Events Management as a career before but now I’m really interested in it.”

Jemma Watts, Creative Arts Lecturer at City College Norwich said: “The students have organised absolutely everything themselves, the venue, models, make up, goody bags, sponsorship, photography and music.
They have learnt so much about events management and really worked as a team and used their different strengths to produce a fantastic show and raise so much money for charity.”

These 6 talented students are all studying for a Creative & Media Advanced Diploma at City College Norwich. The Diploma enables students to work on a variety of hands-on projects and try their hand at different creative disciplines, giving them an understanding of real situations and the skills needed to succeed in the creative industry, and a strong foundation from which to progress to further study.
