What Does Being a Member of the Union Mean For You?
From the moment you enrol on to your course at City College Norwich you automatically become a member of the Students’ Union.
Every student will have different experiences, could have come from a different background, be of a different race, gender and age. This results in the student community at the College being culturally very rich. When you think about it, there is really no other circumstance in which you can live and work alongside such diverse people, yet have something in common with every single one of them – you are a student at City College Norwich.
You may have been taught already about Citizenship at school or have read about it. Citizenship is principally what the Union is all about. Citizenship is all about the positive contribution you make to improve your community. Whatever your contribution to life at City College Norwich is, make it significant. Start the best student group, vote for the person you believe will make a difference, have more fun than you could have ever imagined. Do all of these things and leave the legacy for the students of tomorrow. The very best way to do this is through making sure that the people who represent you are preserving and promoting the things that are important to you. Whatever the differences we may have with one another, all students are united by one common goal: to achieve the best education possible. There are so many factors which shape good education.
The obvious example is your academic life at College, but there are countless more factors that influence the direction of education and your time at College. Be sure that those who represent you are taking action; in fact ensure that you are an active member of the Student community. Become a citizen of the College, protect your community, ensure change for the better and most importantly do not be afraid to take action. Remember that there are 16,000 other students standing shoulder to shoulder with you. Membership of the Students’ Union entitles you to a huge range of benefits, many of which are explored though this Handbook. These include access to a wide range of student groups and societies (that offer activities for a fraction of the cost that non-student member’s pay), a constant yet varying supply of entertainment from Gigs to Club nights, plus much more. Take advantage of as many as you can and get the most out of being a student of City College Norwich.
